Over the last 10 years I have tried many different diets when it comes to feeding my pitbulls. I have tried most supplements, dry dog food, canned dog food and even different kinds of raw meat. The issue I see online is many people on the internet have an opinion on what to feed your dog but most websites and blogs have no experience with actually testing different diets. They will write an article on the best food for your dog than send you to an amazon link to purchase the dog food they recommend. The problem with this is they are giving you advice that in return generates them a commission. But most of these people writing articles on what to feed your dogs don’t own multiple dogs to test their advice on to see if they get real results. We have dogs that are physically impressive in photo, video and even in person. We have dogs that do protection work, dog sports, weight pulling ect. The point I am trying to make is I know what I am talking about not by reading a bunch of articles online but by actually training and feeding these dogs for over 10 years now. I am very confident that the information I am sharing with you will work the best because I got this information by experience. I am going to go into great detail on what I feed my dogs which I don’t need to say its the best way to feed your dog because the results of my dogs speak for themselves in the video below

You Must Consider All 3 Factors

Now that you have seen one of my dogs named Legacy which she is as impressive as a female gets. Legacy is a first pick female at two years old from a breeding we did from Blade X Coco a couple years ago. Legacy was hand selected here at FPM in this video she is weighing around 90 pounds of very lean muscle. She gets exercised about three to five times a week and will run around 20 to 30 miles on a weekly basis. The 3 factors you need for your dog to look like this is genetics, exercise and good diet. If you don’t have all three of these characteristics your dog won’t get the muscle that my dogs have so don’t try to make a dog look like something that it is not. As a dog owner you can only enhance the appearance of your dog as much as the genetics of the dog will let you. This is why people will pay thousands of dollars for a dog from people like us because we have been selecting the best dogs from each litter to be breed for about four generations. This means we pick the best looking and most bad ass dogs of each litter which are also the easiest to train.

The Best Dog Food For Your Pitbull

The best dog food by far would have to be raw meat if you really want your dog to be looking the best and in their healthiest form. Once you go raw your dogs will mentally and physically perform so much better than they  ever have before. Because this is the most natural diet dogs would get when they were in the wild thousands of years ago before modern medicine or veterinarians. With no modern medicine dogs had to naturally be healthier or they would become extinct if their body couldn’t preform in their peak state. Most of the issues that dogs have are caused by the lack of nutrition in their diet which modern dog food does nothing to help this issue. Feeding raw is very simple to do its like a person going from McDonalds and junk food to vegan or only eating foods with organic based ingredients. Most of your health issues can and will be prevented if you start feeding your dog this diet and what a better way to show your dog you love them than by giving them food that is only in their best interest.

Can Pitbulls Eat Raw Meat?

Yes your pitbull can eat raw meat and in my opinion that should be your first choice of food for your dog. The pet industry has had so many recalls on dog food its so much better to go raw here is a quote from  a Wikipedia article on dog food. “In the united states alone dog owners spent over 8.6 billion on commercially manufactured dog food in the year 2007. Overall, several major companies have recalled more than 100 brands of pet foods, with most of the recalled product coming from Menu Foods. Although there are several theories of the source of the agent causing sickness in affected animals, with extensive government and private testing and forensic research, to date, no definitive cause has been isolated. As of April 10, the most likely cause, according to the FDA, though not yet proven, is indicated by the presence of melamine in wheat gluten in the affected foods. In the United States, there has been extensive media coverage of the recall. There has been widespread public outrage and calls for government regulation of pet foods, which had previously been self-regulated by pet food manufacturers. The economic impact on the pet food market has been extensive, with Menu Foods losing roughly $30 Million alone from the recall. The events have caused distrust of most processed pet foods in some consumers. In 1999, another fungal toxin triggered the recall of dry dog food made by Doane Pet Care at one of its plants, including Ol’ Roy, Wal-Mart’s brand, as well as 53 other brands. This time the toxin killed 25 dogs. A 2005 consumer alert was released for contaminated Diamond Pet Foods for dogs and cats. Over 100 canine deaths and at least one feline fatality have been linked to Diamond Pet Foods contaminated by the potentially deadly toxin, Aflatoxin, according to Cornell University veterinarians.

Why Would I buy that for my dog with over 100 brands of dog food being recalled by manufactures, my dogs are not just a statistic they are part of my family. I want you to really see what your feeding your dog lets take the ingredients from a very popular dog food from Walmart called Ol’ Roy. “The first ingredient in this dog food is corn. Corn is an inexpensive and controversial cereal grain. And aside from its energy content, this grain is of only modest nutritional value to a dog”. When in the hell are you ever going to see a dog eating corn in the  dogs natural habitat? This is once again corporate america using cheap ingredients to produce more dog food at a cheaper price even though the ingredients used have no nutritional value to a dogs diet. This always can and will cause lots  known health issues that are completely preventable. If you ever wonder why your dog won’t maintain a healthy weight it is because most dog foods have no actual real meat which your dog needs to maintain a healthy weight.

The second ingredient is meat and bone meal, a dry “rendered product from mammal tissues, including bone, exclusive of any added blood, hair, hoof, horn, hide trimmings, manure, stomach and rumen contents”. Meat and bone meal can have a lower digestibility than most other meat meals. What’s worse, this particular item is anonymous. So, the meat itself can come from any combination of cattle, pigs, sheep or goats — which can make identifying specific food allergens impossible”. We don’t know if these animals have had bad diseases or were very sick because we have no idea where they actually came from. This is very disturbing information to me when thinking about my dog food coming from animals that are sick  and could possibly have diseases. These animals also have probably been given antibiotics and growth hormones which is the only reason to keep the origin of the ingredients anonymous. All of these concerning issues will become digested by your dog and will cause all kinds of diseases and cancer.

The third ingredient is soybean meal, a by-product of soybean oil production more commonly found in farm animal feeds.Although soybean meal contains 48% protein, this ingredient would be expected to have a lower biological value than meat. And less costly plant-based products like this can notably boost the total protein reported on the label — a factor that must be considered when judging the actual meat content of this dog food. This is where most people get tricked when comparing dog foods is they will look at the bag and say look this dog food has 28% protein. The huge issue with this is almost zero of that protein came from actual ingredients that are valuable to a dogs digestive system and body. This type of dog food is what makes your dog get cancer and die early because they were never designed to eat this kind of food. Stop looking at fat and protein percentages and start looking at actual ingredients because this is the trick that big corporations know most people will not look at ingredients just numbers on the label. This is why I feel strongly towards getting your dog food from locally grown  sources for you know what your really feeding your dog. You can very easily ask the farmer if they use antibiotics or growth hormones in their livestock or you can even go to certified organic sources. Because this is the only way you truly know where your dog food is coming from.

Where should I get my raw meat?

I get all of my raw meat in bulk quantities with freshly harvested  turkeys, ducks, and chicken from Amish Farms. I get my raw diet for dogs from them because I know that they don’t put any growth hormones, preservatives or pesticides which is a very big deal to me. When I buy from them I put it in a freezer for storage because it is so much meat it will go bad if I don’t. I will buy around $5,000 to $10,000 worth of meat at once for I can get a bulk price which is way cheaper than buying regular dog food. The problem is most people don’t train dogs professionally like we do so they don’t have the resources to get meat like this. What I would recommend is going to a local butcher in your area and asking if you can buy meat from them. I would do this because you know that the meat is coming from a local area and is very fresh. You also can buy raw meat from different pet stores that is specifically made for the consumption of your dog. I would say this is a very good way to start feeding raw because they have the feeding directions listed on the package This is very important until you get more familiar with different feeding techniques and the amount to feed your dog. I also will hunt deer or elk every year and give the meat and carcass to my dogs which is a very great way to feed your dogs for free which nature intended animals to consume these. I want my dogs to have the most natural diet that their same ancestors thrived on  when they were free

Different recipes for feeding your dog raw meat

I have personally never made different recipes of a raw food diet for my dogs in my kitchen because it would be way to time consuming. If you have 25 dogs like I do that would not be possible to prepare that many dogs their food in your kitchen. The different animals I have feed my dogs is deer, elk, chicken, beef, duck, rabbit, fish, turkey and even geese. It is very easy for me to get food for my dogs because I hunt and know a bunch of hunters who I can get the meat from. Once I get the meat I cut it up and package it and put it in a couple of the big freezers we have for it will last rest of the year. I also buy a lot of my food from the Amish farms which the meat is already packaged and processed for less work on my end but it cost me a lot of money. This video that is uploaded below is from my good friends at Bully Max Inc. who did a great article and video on how to feed your dog inside your kitchen. I personally don’t feed like this because I have a farm but I understand most of you won’t have access to those type of resources. I know a lot of you will be interested in seeing how I get some of our meat so I will be adding a video later on around hunting season when we kill a deer and how we harvest it

I was told raw meat will make my pitbull aggressive?

I have heard this comment a lot over the years about feeding raw meat will make your dog aggressive and turn on you. I train hundreds of dogs a year for different clients and have witnessed thousands of dogs on a raw diet. I can tell you with absolute confidence that feeding raw has no connection between the dog becoming ore aggressive or any connection with turning on an owner. Those issues stem from genetic and training issues which we keep all are dogs up on shots, rabies and dewormings so we have nothing to be worried about. On a side note the dogs enjoy fresh meat so much more than the regular food that people usually give their dogs so they may act aggressive with protection their food from others but this is completely natural and can be corrected with proper training. We all act aggressive if someone is trying to take something from us that we highly value it is a survival instinct of all living animals.

What age should I start feeding my dog raw meat?

At four to six weeks old would be an ideal age to start a puppy eating raw meat because I have my puppies completely weaned from their mothers milk at six weeks old. I would just make sure that you are deworming your puppies every two weeks to prevent your dogs from getting worms because almost all puppies are born with worms. Also another huge precaution I would be taking with puppies is making sure the meat you are feeding them does not having any chicken or bird bones because they can choke on these. You never want to give a puppy a cooked bone of any kind because they can splinter into multiple parts which is very dangerous for any dog especially a puppy. After you feed your puppy raw a couple times you will start to get a hang of it and it was be as simple as feeding regular dog once you get the hang of it. I am very happy that your took the time to learn more about the health of your dogs because this breed needs great owners like you. Give me a call or email if you have any questions you need answered. I also would love people to email me topics they are interested in me writing information about because I love sharing my knowledge with all of you.
